Turney School was successful in the Lambeth Council Higher Needs Provision Capital Allocations (HNPCA) 2022/23 bid.
The capital allocation will be used to build a new classroom block at the rear of Turney School, which will enable us to increase the number of pupils on roll and offer whole school curriculum subjects.
The new two-storey block will provide two new two further classrooms; a therapy room and two new food technology rooms that will enable the school to offer life skills to all pupils. Toilet facilities will be included on each floor.
The design of the classroom block will be in keeping with the existing school, however, sustainability, environmental and renewable options have all been considered and adopted where possible. In particular, a flat roof solar array will be installed to maximise the sunlight to generate power for the new classroom block with the hope of being off grid as much as possible. This will also enable the use of powering a full electric heating and hot water solution, reducing all emissions.
One of the most exciting features will be the new green living wall on the rear flank facing the neighbouring properties. This will help to provide a calming effect to the pupils and neighbours alike.
The construction at Turney School is fully underway and progressing within budget and in line with all programmed timescales.
To make way for the new buildings we have replaced the existing rooms which were demolished with brand new classrooms at the front of the school site. These can be seen below.
