Our curriculum supports meaningful communication in all areas of school life. Our children and young people are given every opportunity to communicate through speaking and listening, reading and writing. We work closely with highly experienced speech and language therapists, who provide training to our staff and class based support for our pupils. Our children and young people access a range of autism specific communication strategies, ranging from objects of reference and visuals supported by spoken language.
We believe high quality texts foster an enjoyment of literature and information, which provide a springboard for learning and a rich leisure pursuit in later life. All pupils are given an opportunity to learn to read through the phonics or comprehension reading programmes.
